The J.Lin Debate : Is He Underrated?
Jeremy Lin is one of my favorite players in the NBA. He is a role model to me. I look up to him and his story has impressed me and inspired me as well. As you can see, I even drew a portrait of him.
All these started in Feb 2012 when the Linsanity visited the world. He brought himself from a nobody to a global superstar under the spotlight. And this was a crucial point to my life – I fell in love with basketball then I started to explore more about it.
I think he’s a pretty smart basketballer who has high basketball IQ and knows how to utilize his understanding of the games to create more opportunities for his teammates and he’s able to help the team.
Honestly speaking, I think he’s seriously underrated! Why?
He has great ability in finding his teammates and creating spaces for them. He is that type of player who knows how to utilize his teammates’ strength and maximize the effect! He’s a pass-first team player who is not obsessed with his own stats like how many points he had scored but rather the performance of the team and the result of the game itself. His ability in driving-in is also remarkable. And… don’t forget, he is also pretty efficient at pick-n-roll plays!
I gotta emphasize the following: HIS DEFENSE IS TRUELY OVERLY- UNDERRATED! His number of blocks was top 5 among the point guards. Although number of blocks isn’t everything but it does reflect a player’s defensive ability to a certain extent. I’ve seen and heard so many times that many critics and especially Byron Scott criticizing on his poor defense which I’d say 90% of the time these are just excuses and bullshit for their ignorance in understanding J Lin and their racism. ( this might be a little bit strong but true to a huge extent).
I certainly don’t understand why they can just replace or sub JLin by another player who isn’t better than him at offense and whose defense is just as fine as JLin’s. This is something that many people, not just his fans, can’t understand and can’t accept AT ALL.
I’d say , sadly, there’s certainly still some racism going on in the NBA no matter they admit it or not. More than often, we see him being substituted when he’s just playing fine or having hot hands. This is unacceptable and ridiculous. Of course, I agree that when a player isn’t performing well on the court, he should be substituted but definitely not when he is playing better than the guy who sub him. I mean most of you would’ve agreed with me on this point, right?
Lastly, despite all these, there is still a big room of improvement for his skills. However, he certainly doesn’t deserve this kind of unfair and poor treatment!
Good luck and all the best to you, my idol, Jeremy Lin!
